Description : The document contains the annual general report and proceedings of the chamber for the year 1904. Apart from the details of the annual general meeting, the annual report presents the following topics: Committee report pertaining to the period, which includes, creation of new department of Commerece and Industry, details of various appointmnets, the Bengal Legislative Council, the Municipal Corporation, the Port Commission, monthly abstract of the proceedings of the committee, list of recognised associations, conference of Indian and Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, Commercial Mission to Persia, Indian Tea Cess Committee, proposed Anglo-American treaty of Arbitration and Conciliation, trade route to eastern Tibet, proposed Indian and colonial exhibition in London, 1905; Empire cables, establishment of a chamber of commerce at Naraingunge, the Marine Society of India, Licensed Measurers' Department, the Royal Exchange, tribunal of arbitration, peice-goods arbitration and surveys, general and Jute arbitrations, London arbitrations, propose dannexe to the Royal Exchange Building. The Law and Legislation section includes : proposed game protection act, draft rules under poisons act of 1904, Calcutta small cause court, stamp duty on fire insurance policies, bill to amend the Local Self Government Act, 1885; stamps on share transfers, administration of religious endowments in India. The Customs section includes : proposed imperial customs service, amendment of the Sea Customs Act, Sugar duties, measurement of widths of peice-goods, british import duty on tea, import duty on manufacturer's circulars and price lists, proposed increase in duty on Silk Goods imported into France, customs duty on ground sulphur, classification of Java sugar for customs duty, revision of the import tarrif schedule. The Marine section deals with : status of Eurasians as seamen, Bengal daily weather report, shipment and packing of tea to Hongkong, regulations for the carriage of pilgrims to the Hedjaz, bills of health, the Luff-point scheme, compromisning of thefts committed on the river, protection of trade ion country boats, proposed canal through the island of Rameswaram from India to Ceylon, payment of gratuities to pilots, carriage of petroleum by sea in passenger vessels. The Municipal seciton deals with : The Corporation, obstruction to traffic in Burrabazar. The telegraph section enlists : reduction of telegraph rates between India and Aden,, publication of code addresses, telegraph forms, proposed revision of Reuter's Commercial Telegram Service, type writing of telegrams, telegraphic communicaion with the Andamans. The Financial section contains : maintanence of an adequate supply of Silver coinage, the paper currency reserve, currecy notes, treatment of light coin, proposed bronze coinage, proposed nickel coinage. The Railways section includes : Tirhoot State railway, supply of rolling stock, headway of bridges, working of traffic at Khulna, lower ganges bridge project. The Miscellaneous section includes : proposed territorial chamges in Bengal, metric system of weights and measures, industrial education, short reeling of yarns, improvemnet of waterways in Bengal, American Consular Invoices, trade between India and Afganistan, insurance statistics, treatment of civil debtors in jail, proposed standard time for India, government trade and navigation returns, convention with Japan, the iron trade of Calcutta, India Survey Committee, list of members, committees and sub-committees of the chamber, reports and sub-committees report.
