Description : The report contains the proceedings of the Half-yearly General Meeting of the Bengal Chamber of Commerce & Industries held on Tuesday, 31st May 1870. It discusses the budget for 1870-71, export duty on rice, port fund, port improvement trust, new jetties, floating bridge over the Hooghly, customs, marine bills, telegraph station between Calcutta and Atcheepore, port rule no 17 regulating the speed of steamers within the limits of the port, overland mail via Bombay, standards of weights and measures in British India, analysis of the currency, the Suez Canal, communication with China via Assam, Port Canning, Morrellgunge, address to His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh.
